Recovering from Burn Out - ActionCOACH

Everyone is juggling so much these days that on occasion, it can be hard to reach deep and find the motivation to do anything other than lay in bed for an extra hour on a Saturday morning. But there are a few tried and proved methods for pulling yourself through such a stint.

First, create a mission statement. Every business has one, so why shouldn’t you. It’s something that lays out your goals, internal culture, and overall core values. A mission statement is used to set the direction of an organization. And every entrepreneur should have one. The most important thing on this to-do list is to write the statement down, read it aloud or memorize it. This is going to be your guiding light, your North Star. Follow it.

Second, get into a routine. Start the day with exercise and juice. Journal. Meditate. Watch 20 minutes of TED Talks on YouTube. Do whatever inspires you, but start your day the right way, and do it every day.

Third, be sure that you’re carving out time for yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day. Go for a walk. Watch a movie you’ve been dying to see. Yes, even take a nap. Just relax. Your life can’t be all work and no play. You remember what happened to the protagonist in “The Shining.”

Finally, and this may seem cliché but keep in mind that things become cliché for a reason, keep a positive attitude. Burn out is a real thing, and one of the best ways to combat it is to reframe, count your blessings and live in an attitude of gratitude. Nothing can be more motivating than taking stalk of everything you’ve been fortunate enough to experience, encounter or do.
